As of 31st May 2011 all Australian nurses have declared that they meet the new requirements for registration, including CPD hours, recency of practice and a current portfolio.
Amidst the confusion, nurses have been running around ‘getting’ their hours up. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to understand that these CPD hours have to relate to their practice. Reflecting on their practice and relating their CPD hours to the ANMC Competencies is the cornerstone of the Portfolio.
Nurses now need to ensure that their Portfolio remains current and that they have at least 20 CPD hours each year. This is the routine needed for annual registration.
